Celebrating 20 Years of Service

Toombs Inc. is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2010.  Twenty years!  Who would have thought?

Twenty years is a long time, and not very long at all, depending upon your perspective.  For the longest running company on the planet, Hoshi Ryokan, it’s the blink of an eye.  Founded in 718, Hoshi, a hotel in Japan, is the world’s oldest continually operating company, and has been operated by the same family for 46 generations.  Now that’s a long time... and talk about family unity!

Twenty years ago.  1990.  What was happening in 1990?  

Nelson Mandela was released from prison in South Africa after a 27 year incarceration.   The Hubble Space Telescope was launched.  Milli Vanilli lip-synched their way to a Grammy Award, and the “Worldwide Web” was invented.  Invented? 

Oh, and a barrel of oil averaged $23 (which was relatively high at the time, forced up by the Gulf War – the first one).  That average price would dip to a low of $11 in 1998.  Ouch.

Since 1990 our company has grown, retracted slightly, and then grown significantly more.  We started in one city, and are now in 4, with strong partners in 19 others across Canada.

And as our service offerings have evolved from strictly Career Transition Consulting (or, Relocation Counselling, as it was known), to a wider spectrum of employee-related programs in the hiring, coaching, and retention realm, we have been happy to partner with an ever-increasing number of companies to help manage their workforce needs.  And we look forward to more of that to come.

So, to our friends, customers, clients, acquaintances, and brief encounters:  thanks for your assistance.
And to the varied practitioners, trusted colleagues, consultants, counsellors, and any other staff members that have wandered the halls over the past 20 years, a heartfelt thanks for helping to make this company what it is today.
